OUR COACHING STAFF

Matt Hubbs Redmond Varsity Head Coach

Head Coach
MATT HUBBS

Matt Hubbs, a native of Eugene, Oregon, brings a deep passion for baseball and player development to his role as Head Baseball Coach at Redmond High School. A 2016 graduate of Willamette High School, he continued his athletic career with the Lane Community College baseball team before serving in the United States Air Force. His passion for the game evolved into a love of coaching, beginning with the Colts at Thurston High School in Springfield, OR.

Hubbs spent five impactful seasons with the Colts (2017–2023), including a pivotal role as JV Head Coach and varsity assistant during Thurston’s 2023 OSAA 5A State Championship run. That same year, he earned his Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies from Bushnell University, with a focus on psychology, criminal justice, and history.

While pursuing his graduate studies, Matt served as a Graduate Assistant Coach under former Drifters and Beacons Head Coach Tommy Richards, earning his Master’s in Sports Management in 2024. He has since continued coaching at the collegiate level as an assistant coach for the Bushnell Beacons, specializing in outfield development and serving as the camp coordinator. In the summers, Matt joined a West Coast League (Springfield Drifters) collegiate wood bat team as an assistant coach in 2024 and returned to the staff in 2025.

Now leading the Panthers, Coach Hubbs is committed to building a program defined by toughness, integrity, and relentless development. With deep Oregon roots and a servant-leader approach, he looks forward to inspiring student-athletes both on and off the field. When he’s not coaching, Matt enjoys exploring the outdoors in Central Oregon with his family and girlfriend, Itzel Valdivia, who is a school counselor in Bend.

JOEY GRAVES

Coach Joey Graves is entering his 15th year with Redmond Baseball and brings over 17 years of coaching experience to the program. A proud Redmond High School graduate, Joey has also coached at West Salem High and Culver High before returning home to contribute to the program that shaped his own baseball journey. At Redmond, he focuses on infield and outfield development, as well as overall player growth—both on and off the field. His commitment to the Panthers reflects his deep roots in the Redmond community, where he grew up, built his career, and now plans to raise his family.

A former standout corner infielder, Joey played first and third base at Chemeketa Community College after earning First Team All-IMC honors at Redmond High. Today, he brings the same work ethic and leadership he showed as a player into his coaching and teaching career. As a Special Education Teacher with the Redmond School District, he combines patience, structure, and encouragement to help athletes reach their potential. Guided by his philosophy that baseball builds confidence, discipline, and leadership, Coach Graves strives to create a supportive environment where players develop as athletes and as people. His favorite quote, “Good is not good when better is expected,” reflects his belief in constant growth and high standards. When he’s not on the field or in the classroom, Joey enjoys spending time outdoors fishing and hunting—a true reflection of his Oregon roots.
